Wyndham

22nd May 2013

Today we made the 100km trip from Kununurra to Wyndham, which we tag teamed with Kim, Jackie, Teesh & Kaleb. We left Kununurra around 10am arriving just after 11am.

The first thing we did was drive up to the top of The Bastion, a 3.6km steep climb to the top which ended at the 5 Rivers Lookout.

The view was nothing short of spectacular once again. From the top of The Bastion you could see the entire Cambridge Gulf and as the name suggests, the 5 rivers that flow into it - the King, Durack, Pentecost, Ord & Forrest Rivers.

When we reached the top we were greeted with a taste of the wet season as a small storm front came in and gave us a good soaking for about 15 minutes.

After some time checking out the view, we headed down to the town and looked at the "Big Croc", and did a quick bit of shopping for some new thongs for Chloe. With that done we headed off toward the Gulf to look at the new floating jetty which was built in February last year.

We made a detour along the way into the area known as "The Gully". All I can say about it, was that it reminded me of a show called "The Swamp People" on fox and I'll leave the rest up to you!

Once we had seen the sights of Wyndham, we stopped for lunch at the 5 Rivers Cafe, which to be honest was like an oasis in the desert, very nice. After lunch we made our way back to Kununurra making 2 stops.

The first was at a creek crossing which was called " Maggie Creek", I'm sure you understand why and then we also stopped at Molly Springs, a beautiful little water hole tucked in off the highway, close to town.

Later in the night, we all went out to the local tavern for dinner which was a good night out.

Another great day on our travels, how lucky are we!
