Our Last Day in Darwin

4th June 2013

Well today was our last full day in Darwin and we got ready and headed back into the city for some more sightseeing. We made our way to the waterfront development which was really beautiful. The harbour had been separated and a sea wall made so there was a safe swimming beach to enjoy.

Darwin Waterfront

We had a nice stop off at a cafe overlooking the waterfront, before wandering around some more, where Chloe had a swim at the beach. Unfortunately Maggie couldn't swim because of her leg. There was also a wave pool down there, which looked great and both the girls had been very keen to spend at least half a day there, but again due to Maggie's leg, we have had to put that on the agenda for our next visit to Darwin, not that either of the girls were too impressed.

For lunch we found a really nice park nearby, before going back into the city centre and looking around some more & taking some more photos before heading out of town again to Crocodylus Park, which as the name suggests is a crocodile park.

We arrived around 2.30pm and had to wait for about an hour until the tour started, which gave us time to check out the snake display, museum and the shop. When the tour started we headed straight for the big croc pens, where Chloe got a chance to feed a large croc, she was very excited. Once the tour & feeding was over, the girls were given a chance to hold a baby croc, which they both had a go at and really enjoyed.

We left the park around 4.30pm and made our way to the World Famous Humpty Doo Pub, where we had planned to meet George for dinner as our way of thanking him for his hospitality over the last week.

We had a great night, the meals were good pub food and I have to say it was one of the best cooked steaks that I have ever had. At the end of the meal, the girls jumped in the car with George and apparently didn't stop chatting the whole way home, while we pulled up the rear. It was a really great way to finish our time in Darwin and we can't thank George enough for letting us stay with him and basically giving us free run of his place, it has been excellent.

Tomorrow we are heading for Kakadu to continue our adventure, which once again we are all very excited about, until then....
